Busy weekends are fun, but so short!
Wow, we did a lot this past weekend! Here’s a quick rundown without commentary (which i’ll add afterwards):
Friday early evening: power clean study including moving tv, tv stand, dvds, dvd player, xbox and n64 all out of the room
Friday late evening: dinner and bed
Saturday morning: drive to napa
Saturday late morning – mid afternoon : tasting at wineries and picking up our wine club shipments
Saturday late afternoon – early evening : clothes shopping at “Pea in the Pod” maternity store
Saturday late evening : dinner at CPK then drive home
Sunday morning : church at willow glen to see dedication of Leo (Peter & Julie’s first child)
Sunday lunch : at Peter & Julie’s house with about 60 others to celebrate dedication
Sunday early afternoon : michelle goes to a memorial service, stephen goes grocery shopping
Sunday mid afternoon: cooking (stephen), laundry & nap (michelle)
Sunday evening : relax (video games)
We made good progress on cleaning out the study. There’s still a fair bit to do, and I need to put a number of things on Craigslist to get rid of them, but the only furniture item that still needs to be removed is my computer desk & computer. We’re delaying with that because we like hanging out together upstairs … but it’ll have to move downstairs eventually. Other than that, there are a number of books that need to be given away or moved to the garage, but we’re doing pretty well.
The napa day trip was fun, though not nearly as fun as when we can both drink and share the full experience together. We slept in a little later than we’d planned, but that was fine as our only appt was at Sullivan for 12:30, so we had plenty of time. We dropped by the Oakville grocery to pick up sandwiches at about 11:20 and then stopped for a tasting at Franciscan (on the same side road as sullivan). Franciscan was nice (their huge fountain is quite impressive), but it was the first tasting that I was doing without michelle being able to taste and it was a difficult transition, so i didn’t enjoy it all that much.
Sullivan was a lot more fun, we sat outside with the winery guy, eating our lunch while talking to him as he poured me wine to taste. Michelle had a fun drink with her for lunch, so it wasn’t as bad that she couldn’t taste the wines i was tasting. It was definitely fun to go to Sullivan — but, again, not as fun as when michelle and i can compare our opinions & thoughts on the wines. We spent about 1.5 hours at Sullivan and then headed over to St. Supery. We chilled in the “members” section, talking some (mostly just chatting, it’s hard to have a serious conversation in such a setting!) and me trying various wines. As usual, St. Supery was generous in terms of the number of tastings provided, so I had fun … but it would have been far more fun if michelle and i had both been tasting!
After we were done at St. Supery it was about 4, so we headed down to a big shopping center in Emeryville (about the middle of the 2 hour drive from napa to our home). Michelle wanted to go to the “Pea in the Pod” store there to go shopping for maternity clothes with me. I had carefully brought a book with me to read, but forgot it in the car … i played a lot of tetris on my phone, but overall it was actually somewhat interesting shopping with michelle (especially since i knew it was just the one store, that definitely helped). Michelle ended up getting several shirts, and two nice corduroy pants.
Dinner at CPK was non-eventful and when we got home we pretty much crashed.
Leo’s dedication was fun to attend. The actual dedication was only a few minutes long (just like how our church does it), but since this is a plant church (PBC-WG, for “willow glen”) from our church (PBC-C for “cupertino”) there are a number of people who used to attend our church going there and it was fun (well, for michelle) to see them again.
After the service, we went over to Peter & Julie’s house for a celebratory lunch. There were easily 60 to 70 people there in total, so it was *very* crowded. It was fun to see people, i suppose, but i was already rather tired of talking to people (you have to talk to people when tasting wine too, so saturday wasn’t all that introverted either!). Still, pretty cool all told — i enjoyed it at the time, but was amazingly tired when we left! Just goes to show how different michelle and i are :). The pastor they had do the dedication is also (along with his wife) going to be the god-parent’s for Leo. I spoke with Bernard some during lunch about being god-parents and different views of what the role of a god-parent is and the like. It was pretty interesting. I assume I probably knew people with god-parents when i was growing up … but darned if i can remember anyone now.
A little before 2pm, we left (and so did several others) since the memorial service for someone-who’s-name-i’ve-forgotten was at 2pm. The man was one of the founders of the private high-school (and middle school) that michelle attended, so she felt like she had to go, though she hadn’t known the man very well. While she was there, i went grocery shopping and got things prepped to start cooking (though i didn’t actually start till getting back from picking her up).
I spent several hours cooking. I made lemon chicken (for sunday dinner for us and mostly to take to the Drury’s for their dinner on monday since they just had a kid), 4 mini spicy-meatloaves (for our dinner on monday & wednesday), and chicken-cheddar-chowder (for our lunches starting tuesday or wednesday). I was very tired of cooking by the time i was done :).
After dinner (lemon chicken is yummy!), we relaxed (i played a video game, not sure what micelle was doing on her laptop) until suddenly realizing it was rather late (about 11) and quickly going to bed!
All told, it was a fun weekend, but that does, sadly, seem to make the weekend feel “shorter”. Ah well, probably better this way than to be so bored that the weekend never seems to end ;)
