Howdy!
And this would be my third attempt to design a website over the past few
months.
The first involved entirely handwritten html & css (though I did start
from an example file taken from http://www.csszengarden.com/). In my
humble opinion, it was a very nice website … but it quickly became
clear that, though basic maintenance and updating was possible, more
dynamic features (such as a blog with, in particular, an archive, and
the ability for users to add comments, etc) would require too much time
for me to write and maintain. Though I *could* do it (and wish I had
the time since some of it would probably be rather interesting to figure
out), I would never really be able to get things working properly
meaning that a purely “home-grown” site just isn’t the right option
currently.
The second involved using Mambo. I liked mambo … and it certainly has
lots of features. But, looking at it, there are far more than I
actually need and it just looked like more of a hassle than it was
worth. Besides, after 30 minutes of fiddling with it, I still hadn’t
come up with a decent way to display my anime review information and was
still rather confused as to how everything was working. That and I
couldn’t figure out how to get a nested menu with more than two layers
– I don’t technically need it, but the fact that I couldn’t figure out
how to do it with via their graphical admin stuff nor by actually
looking at the code used to create the “html” pages (granted, i probably
didn’t give it enough time), lead me to decide that mambo was overkill
for my needs.
The third attempt (this one) uses WordPress. I’ve got high hopes for
this one — third time pays for all, you know! It’s got the features I
need, plus a few extras and looks relatively easy to figure out as long
as one knows php (which i haven’t used in a while, so it’s a bit rusty,
but is coming back). I’m going to slowly continue to put up more and
more info and customize things further.
Feel free to let me know what you think and add any suggestions!
